Effective SEO for your Business/Brand Social Media Accounts!

Hello Everyone, Welcome Back!

To follow on from my last blog post about Facebook Marketing which you can view by clicking here!

I thought it would be a good idea to discuss SEO (Search Engine Optimization) tips for your Social Media. Of course many of you will have used SEO for your web presence before (If you need an introduction to SEO click here!) but not a lot of people realize that you can have much better results using SEO for your Social Media too! So let’s get into it!

1. Produce Quality Content!

I can’t stress this one enough! The better quality content you post the better your search Engine Results will be! Bots and Algorithms have evolved to understand user intent and content relevance instead of the previous Keywords repeated 500x to generate top spots.

What is considered Quality Content?

Original produced 100% by you/your business is a key factor, connect with your followers or users and test what content they react the best too! It could be long posts like blogs that are shared throughout their own personal profiles or videos, gifs, photos!

Use High Quality Images and videos too everything should be produced to the highest quality to encourage users to share and react to it! It depends on your product/service and the user! Just remember to post regularly and quality over quantity!

The better they react to the content the faster your results will drive up. Think storytelling and purpose, what are you hoping to achieve from this post? Everything you share or post on your social media should be contrived from your entire social media strategy and have goals to go with it. If you are posting for no reason or to fill your page, you should stop what you are doing and evaluate your strategy!

2. Make it Easy to find You on Social Media!

It may sound like an obvious one but many accounts forget to disable the private feature on their social media accounts. It should be Public with the same Name and corporate logo or photo as your business/website (size, colour and style) so you are easily recognisable! Where possible take advantage of the business profiles available, Facebook/Instagram and Google all have a business directory section where you can add; website, business hours, contact info etc.

Make sure if you have a website you add and link icons to your active social media accounts and vice versa to your website, this increases traffic to all mediums and increases your ranking as a legitimate business and improves Brand Recognition!

3. Use Trending Topics/News and Hashtags!

All social media now feature a trending section where you will find a bizarre mix of News, Conversations, Popular videos and Events etc. It really has everything, if you would like to increase your presence and reach on social you should use this to your advantage!

Start conversations about these topics using Hashtags that are popular at certain times/days to stand out and be recognised as a legitimate active account, this will encourage users to search the hashtag see your content and like/comment on it resulting in higher SEO results!

You can even create your own Hashtags and trending topics e.g. starting competitions this is especially popular now, brands even encourage users to produce their own content to win a prize and then share the content with their followers or create television/billboard ads with the content! A great way to engage with users, creating a following and producing Original Content all in one! (And it’s cheaper too!)

4. Engage with your Followers!

I know this has been implied through other points but it really is important to respond to posts/questions or reviews! Whether it is negative or positive feedback the more/faster you respond the better your reputation and results!

This builds credibility and trust with your brand and again tells the platform you are active and hopefully popular!

Take advantage by sharing local events, content and news, as I mentioned in my previous post Facebook responds and promotes you and people in your local area will find you faster when searching, hopefully generating footfall to your brick and mortar store (if you have one!) if not gaining local custom is never a bad thing!

5. Monitor results and be adaptable!

With social media moving so fast every thing you do is amplified whether negative or positive so you really do have to keep your eye on campaigns, content and reviews on a daily basis! If you become swamped with negative reviews it can harm your reputation and search results in the same way if you take a break for a few months and find yourself having to start all over again with content to be back in the top rankings. Consistency is key when it comes to social media!

If you find one kind of content isn’t working as well an another change or experiment with the latest features like stories or live events which are promoted more by the algorithms because they are new and the platform want users and businesses to interact with the feature as they hope it will result in more users to the platform! So remember to keep up to date with the latest tools and features to really get the most out of these platforms!
