Using Social Media to Enhance Your Business

Many of you will be well versed in social media platforms and how ‘essential’ they are for your business. However, not every business needs an online presence or is using their presence ineffectively, when you have established that a social media platform will enhance your business model these steps can help improve your social media pages.

1) Choose your platform wisely

Every business does not necessarily need to be on every social media platform, instead of choosing to have a Facebook, Twitter and Instagram look at the demographics of your consumers or your targeted markets. (e.g. if you are aiming fashion products at millennial’s Instagram would be the best option to gain maximum reach.)

If you have a website link it to your social media clearly visible on your page(s) this can be easily done and can result in more traffic to your website which should share the same name and logo creating a unified presence.

Follow and message pages based in your local area that can promote you on their site which may result in more traffic to your website and social media pages.

2) Use the Sites best features to engage with consumers

The main aim for many businesses to have a social media presence is to increase positive engagement with consumers and promotion of products. Don’t just reuse the same content on every account this can get tedious to copy and paste posts to different sites and boring for your consumers who aren’t following the business for repetitive messaging over and over again, this will just add negative feeling with your business and potential loss of followers. Each social media has a specific USP that you can match with the aims and goals of your business which should lead to maximum reach and engagement.

3) Think about Timing of content and posts

Plan posts around when you receive the most reactions and feedback in return, posting about what customers are interested in will boost the rapport you have with them and create a positive dialogue. In turn, choosing to post during inappropriate times can also damage brand reputation so be wary of this to avoid any negative publicity.

4) Build your Community

Having a community of supporters or consumers is a powerful tool for testing new products/features to an already captive audience which will provide better feedback for you to improve or ideas that you may not necessarily have thought of but a follower has.

5) Create your own tag/trend

Trending lists are the most popular features on Facebook and Twitter with access to current news, events and a worldwide audience. The easiest way for a brand to trend is by creating their own tags this can be anything; competitions, products or sharing depending on your brand, this will further improve your social media community.

Remember that you can also use existing trending items to spark conversations and reactions among followers.
